Standard Petroleum Supports Muscular Dystrophy and Sends Local Children to Summer Camp
BRIDGEPORT, Conn., May 25, 2010 – Standard Petroleum, Co. (with gas stations in Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Ridgefield and more Connecticut locations) in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will hold its Annual Charity Golf Invitational at the Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe, Connecticut on June 15, 2010.
In its eighth year supporting MDA, Standard employees, contractors, vendors and friends are invited to participate in the golf outing, silent auction and dinner. Proceeds from the event will be presented by Roy Friedman, President of Standard Oil of Connecticut, Inc, to representatives of MDA at the company’s annual summer picnic at the Bridgeport headquarters.
The Standard Companies have collected over $170,000.00 for this worthwhile cause in previous years with the goal this year to exceed the $200,000.00 mark.
A portion of the golf proceeds go directly to MDA, the health agency that fights neuromuscular disease through scientific research, community service, and public health education. The remainder of Standard’s contribution will send area children stricken with various forms of Dystrophy to summer camp through sponsorships, including Julian, a twelve-year-old Bridgeport resident who has recently been selected as the Goodwill Ambassador for MDA for the State of Conn. Both Julian and his family will be honored at the summer BBQ to be held at Standard Oil of Conn.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the efforts put forth by the Standard Oil family to support MDA and its noteworthy children’s summer camp,” said Roy Friedman, President.
Over the years Standard has sponsored over sixty children for summer camp, all from local towns including Bridgeport and surrounding Fairfield County. MDA’s summer camps occur in ninety locations across the country. The camps teach skill development and provide area children dealing with a disability the chance to have a fun-filled week. Please note: Opportunities are still available for Volunteer Counselors, candidates must be 18 years of age of older and must be able to put the needs of someone else before themselves. Please call (203) 256-8118 for additional information.
